HL Deb 20 March 1986 vol 472 c1145WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What future plans they have for the prime commercial site of the Duke of York's Headquarters; and whether continued military use is necessary.

The Minister of State for Defence Support (Lord Trefgarne)

The Greater London TAVR Association and its advisers, in conjunction with the Ministry of Defence, have under consideration the commercial development of some small areas on the fringe of the estate. There are, however, no plans to develop the open space or to alter the essential character of the existing headquarters buildings. Continued military use of the major part of the site is necessary since disposal of the site would be most unlikely to realise the sums needed to relocate the resident units within their catchment areas in Central London and to reprovide the existing training facilities.
