HC Deb 19 March 1986 vol 94 c241W
68. Mr. Heddle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent representations he has received on the supply of homes to rent.

Sir George Young

We continue to receive various representations on this subject. We want to encourage the supply of homes to rent in the private sector, though no proposals for any major reform of the Rent Act are likely to be brought forward during the lifetime of this Parliament. A number of representations have stressed how more homes might be provided under the assured tenancy scheme. In response to these representations my hon. Friend has tabled amendments to the Housing and Planning Bill to extend the assured tenancy scheme to improved property.
