§ Mr. Gareth Wardellasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if Her Majesty's Government are planning any research projects on the adverse effects arising from noise interrupting sleep.
§ Mrs. RumboldA number of institutions, including the Medical Research Council collaborated in an EC study of the effects of noise on sleep as part of the third EC environment research programme. I also understand that the Transport and Road Research Laboratory is planning studies of nuisance from traffic noise including annoyance from sleep disturbance, though not the medical or other effects.
