HC Deb 17 March 1986 vol 94 c11W
Mr. Leighton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to the circumstances in which, on the evening of 12 March, a lorry at Wapping drove through a line of police into a meeting being held there by the hon. Member for Newham, North-East, the right hon. Member for Bethnal Green and Stepney, (Mr. Shore), the hon. Members for Easington (Mr. Dormand) and for Kingston upon Hull, East (Mr. Prescott); what action the police are taking; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I regret that in this incident two demonstrators and two police officers suffered minor injuries. I am advised by the Commissioner that the police are investigating the incident, and have questioned the lorry driver concerned. No decision has yet been made on whether any charges should be brought.
