asked the Paymaster General if he will list the total number of new jobs which have become vacant or available in the Wolverhampton area during the last three months, and the specific areas of industry or commerce in which they have arisen.

The information is not available as requested. However, data are collected on the number of vacancies notified to jobcentres. The following table gives the numbers of vacancies notified to the Wolverhampton jobcentre between 8 November 1985 and 7 February 1986, analysed according to the 1980 standard industrial classification.

We estimate that nationally only about one third of all vacancies are notified to jobcentres.

My Department does not ask benefit claimants why they cease to sign as unemployed.
