§ Mr. LangInformation for the west midlands area is not separately available and no information is held for any period before February 1982. Between February 1982 and December 1985, the total number of legal proceedings instituted by my Department's midlands region against people suspected of making fraudulent claims to benefit was 1,999 but this figure does not distinguish between different parts of the region.
