§ Mr. Robert Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list in the Official Report the maximum working hours of (a) civil airline pilots, (b) heavy goods vehicle drivers and (c) public service vehicle drivers.
§ Mr. RidleyFlight time limitation on air crews is the responsibility of the Civil Aviation Authority. I am sure the chairman would respond to any questions from the hon. Gentleman. The maximum duty hours for drivers of most goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gvw within the United Kingdom are 11 hours per day and 60 hours per week, with up to 14 and 66 hours allowed for certain special needs. Most PSV drivers on local services are subject to a limit of 16 hours on the working day; most other PSV drivers are required to take a rest period that limits the working day to 14 hours. Special rules apply to double manning and to international passenger traffic.
