Mr. Frank Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list for each year since 1955–56 the proportion of the social security budget paid from the national insurance fund.

Mr. Major

The proportion of social security benefit expenditure paid from the national insurance fund for the years 1962–63 to 1985–86 is set out in the table. The proportion for the years 1955–56 to 1961–62 is not readily available.
