HC Deb 10 March 1986 vol 93 c337W
Mr. John Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what funding comes from his Department to the BMX cycle track in Brixton; and if he is satisfied with value for money for the project.

Sir George Young

The Department approved partnership funding for the BMX cycle track in Brixton in 1982. The scheme received a capital grant of E13,390, and a grant towards the annual running costs of £20,000.

The scheme has made a positive short-term use of an otherwise vacant council site. As the land is now required for housing, the organisers of this project, Brixton cycle club, are winding up its activities on the site.

I am satisfied that the project has provided value for money during the period of its urban programme funding.
