asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many successful prosecutions there have been for speeding in (a) the Greater London council area and (b) the inner London area in the last year for which figures are available.

Information in the form requested is not readily available. The available information relates to findings of guilt for speed limit offences in each police force area and is published annually in "Offences Relating to Motor Vehicles, England and Wales, Supplementary Tables"—table 18 of the issue for 1984. In 1984, there were about 32,700 findings of guilt for these offences in the Metropolitan police district and about 140 in the City of London.
