HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 c28W
Miss Fookes

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if the royal yacht Britannia will be refitted in Her Majesty's dockyard, Devonport.

Mr. Lee

After considering all factors, I have decided that HM Y Britannia's refit will be undertaken at Devonport dockyard, where it is now clear that the necessary capacity will be available in the required timescale. An agreement has been reached between management and industrial and non-industrial trade unions at Devonport which provides for flexible working practices and the avoidance of delay through industrial action. I hope that Britannia will provide a welcome addition to the work load of the dockyard, and underline the confidence which we have in both management and the work force.
