HL Deb 20 June 1986 vol 476 c1232WA
Baroness Jeger

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In what circumstances widows will not receive the £1,000 tax-free grant proposed under the revised provisions.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Baroness Trumpington)

The proposed widows' payment replaces the widows' allowance paid under the current scheme and carries identical entitlement conditions. It will not therefore be payable to those women widowed over 60 whose husbands were in receipt of a retirement pension at the time of death.
