HL Deb 20 June 1986 vol 476 c1232WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What proposals have been received from the USSR relating to the Chernobyl disaster in connection with a study by the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Gray of Contin)

The USSR has said it will make available to the IAEA information on the Chernobyl accident for technical study. A meeting of technical experts in Vienna is being arranged for the end of August to consider this information. On 14th May Mr. Gorbachev also suggested convening a specialised international conference under the auspices of the IAEA to discuss a number of questions including safety and early warning of accidents.
