§ Mr. Bestasked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what account he took of the passage of relevant information to police traffic officers in designing the current drink-driving campaign; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he has received representations from the Association of Chief Police Officers or individual chief officers on the implications for the level of enforcement of the drink-driving law of the current drink-driving campaign.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyAs I explained in answer to my hon. Friend's questions on 28 April and 9 May, the current focus on drinking and driving was planned in close 451W consultation with representatives of the traffic committee of the Association of Chief Police Officers. Consultation began early in the year and provided an opportunity to take account of police views on the implications for enforcement and other relevant aspects.
Detailed information about the campaign was provided to all police forces by the Department on 17 April. I understand information was also made available by the traffic committee.
