§ Mr. Hunterasked the Secretary of State for Defence what were the findings of the review of the requirements from his Department's housing in Coopers Lane, Brainley, near Basingstoke.
§ Mr. LeeAs I advised my hon. Friend in my letter of 22 January 1986 to him the programme for reducing the MOD's housing stock in the Aldermaston area had been deferred in order to provide accommodation for additional manpower needed for the nuclear defence programme. This decision includes the houses in Cooper's lane, Bramley.
426WIt is too early yet to say whether the availability of MOD housing has proved to be a worthwhile recruitment incentive, but I am keeping the situation under review and will continue to bear in mind that the local housing authority would be interested in the short-term loan of houses in Cooper's Lane, whenever this can be arranged without detriment to the MOD's requirements.
