HC Deb 24 July 1986 vol 102 cc456-7W
Mr. Sheerman

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of current seat belt wearing levels for front seat occupants of cars and light vans.

Mr. David Mitchell

Seat belt wearing surveys are now carried out at six monthly intervals at 55 sites, involving observation of about 100,000 cars and light vans. The latest survey, carried out in April, showed wearing rates to be 94 per cent. for both drivers and front seat passengers of cars and light vans.
