HC Deb 24 July 1986 vol 102 c457W
Mr. Nicholas Fairbairn

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to commemorate the bicentenary of the Northern Lighthouse Board; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moore

It gives me great pleasure to offer my congratulations and best wishes to the commissioners and their staff on the occasion of the bicentenary of the Northern Lighthouse Board. I understand that its first meeting was held in Edinburgh on 1 August 1786 and I am sure it gives everyone concerned with that body the greatest satisfaction that a Scottish institution of such high distinction and with such a long and proud tradition of service to mariners, should still flourish.
