§ Mr. Dubsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many wives and children refused entry at each port in the Indian subcontinent in 1985 appealed against the refusal; how many of those appeals were (i) allowed, (ii) dismissed, (iii) withdrawn and (iv) are pending;
(2) how many (a) husbands and (b) fiancés refused wholly or partly on primary purpose grounds at each port in the Indian subcontinent in 1985 appealed against the refusal; and how many of those appeals in each category were (i) allowed, (ii) dismissed, (iii) withdrawn and (iv) are pending.
§ Mr. WaddingtonThe readily available information relates to appeals dealt with by the immigration appellate authorities in 1985, analysed by broad categories of appeal and broad nationality groups, and is given in the following table. Corresponding information on appeals outstanding is not readily available; the total number of appeals to adjudicators outstanding at the end of 1985, measured in terms of the number of cases, not appellants, was 1,262 for nationals of Bangladesh or India and 781 for nationals of Pakistan.
