§ 34. Mr. Easthamasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the change in the number of crimes of violence against the person in England and Wales in the year ended March 1986 compared with the year ended March 1979.
§ Mr. Mellor123,100 offences of violence against the person were recorded by the police in England and Wales in the 12 months ending 31 March 1986, 34,800 more than in the 12 months ending 31 March 1979. Numbers of offences recorded in the most recent 12-month period are published quarterly in Home Office statistical bulletins (table 4 of issue 16/86), and annual figures are published in the Command Paper "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales".
