§ Mr. Hoyleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the number of crimes reported in the following categories for (a) Merseyside, (b) Greater Manchester, (c) Lancashire, (d) Cheshire and (e) Cumbria, separately, and for each year since 1979: (i) theft, (ii) burglary, (iii) vandalism, (iv) rape and (v) drug offences; and how many of the crimes in each category were cleared up.
§ Mr. MellorStatistics of notifiable offences recorded by the police for the offence groups theft and handling stolen goods, burglary and criminal damage are published annually, by police force area, in "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales" (table 2.5 of the volume for 1984, Cmnd 9621) and most recently in table 6 of Home Office Statistical Bulletin 4/86. I shall write to the hon. Member regarding the other information requested.
