§ Mr. Dewarasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what grants or loans were made by the Scottish Development Agency in connection with the refurbishment of the North British Hotel, Glasgow, between 1983 and 1985; and what money was repaid when the hotel was subsequently sold.
§ Mr. Rifkind[pursuant to his reply, 14 July 1986, c. 383]: Through the local enterprise grants for urban projects (LEGUP) scheme the Scottish Development Agency provided a loan of £200,000 in connection with the refurbishment of the North British hotel in October 1984. Under the terms of the loan this sum plus an early redemption payment of £31,438 was repaid to the agency in December 1985 after the hotel was sold.
A separate direct grant of £187,110 was paid under the agency's environmental powers for stone cleaning and other works. None of this was due to be repaid.
