HC Deb 07 July 1986 vol 101 c26W
37. Mr. Patchett

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what estimate his Department has made of the cost to the British Gas Corporation of cutting the price of gas to domestic customers by one penny per therm.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

It would be impracticable to reduce the price of gas to domestic customers and not, at the same time, to other tariff customers. A general tariff reduction of 1p a therm would reduce BGC's revenues by around £120 million in a full year.
