asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement about the progress of Energy Efficiency Year 1986.

Energy Efficiency Year continues to make a strong impact. The "Monergy" logo, and the slogan "Get More for Your Monergy" are well established, and over 800 "Monergy" events have already taken place; 3,200 people have attended the seven Monergy breakfasts held so far.

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what further measures he proposes to take to encourage energy efficiency; and if he will make a statement.

The year is proving highly successful. Already, over 800 energy efficiency events have been held and the original target of 1,000 events will soon be exceeded. Over 3,200 people have attended the seven Monergy breakfasts held so far. In the industrial and commercial sectors we have identified energy savings worth £500 million. Energy Efficiency Year will he a powerful spingboard from which to launch future initiatives.

During 1987 interest will concentrate on obtaining the greatest possible application of new technologies.

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate of the savings per annum which have been secured so far by industry and commerce through energy efficiency schemes; and if he will make a statement.

Initiatives taken by industry and commerce so far in Energy Efficency Year are currently leading to annual savings of £500 million.
