§ Mr. Corbettasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what provision is being made for (a) full-time and (b) part-time interpreters and in which languages in the immigration service at Heathrow airport terminal 4.
§ Mr. WaddingtonThe provision of interpretation facilities by the immigration service is currently under review. Until that review is completed, terminal 4 will draw on the pool of eight full-time interpreters at terminal 3, who speak Bengali, Farsi, Gujerati, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi and Urdu, supplemented by the employment of hourly-paid interpreters in those and other languages, as necessary.
§ Mr. Corbettasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the establishment (a) requested by the staff side and (b) given for immigration officers by grade at London Heathrow terminal 4.
§ Mr. WaddingtonThe approved allocation is for 96 immigration officers and 16 chief immigration officers. This compares with a complement of 100 immigration officers and 16 chief immigration officers suggested by the Immigration Service Union and the Society of Civil and Public Servants (Immigration Branch).
