§ Mr. Corbettasked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the expected passenger throughput at London Heathrow terminal 4 each 24 hours; and what estimates he has made of future growth in passengers.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerThe passenger throughput at terminal 4 Heathrow in each 24-hour period will vary considerably throughout the year. The terminal has been designed to be able to handle 2,000 passengers per hour in each direction. On the pattern of traffic expected to use the terminal its annual capacity is about 8 million passengers. Initially, following the transfer to the terminal of British Airways' long-haul, Paris and Amsterdam services, and KLM's and Air Malta's services, BAA expects the annual passenger throughput to be about 6 million. The estimates of future growth in the number of596W passengers in the south-east were set out in the White Paper on airports policy (Cmnd. 9542) published in June 1985.
