HL Deb 20 February 1986 vol 471 cc808-9WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is the case that the Ministry of Defence Strategic Defence Initiative (SDI) Office plans to approach Vice-Chancellors of UK universities outlining areas of research of interest to United States SDI planners, and if so whether the expense of the MoD SDI Office and its activities are falling on the British Defence Budget or are being met by the US SDI Office.

Lord Trefgarne

Universities will be kept fully informed along with other interested entities of opportunities for participation in the SDI research programme by correspondence and by the activities of the Department of Education and Science representative working with the SDI Participation Office in the Ministry of Defence. The costs of the latter will be met by HMG.
