§ 42. Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans to increase the amount of public assistance available for the improvement of housing built for colliery workers between 1919 and 1939; and if he will make a statement.
§ Sir George YoungThe Government have no plans to give special assistance for the improvement of housing built for colliery workers. An application for a home improvement grant for such a house can be made to the local authority, in the same way as for other housing. Loans may be available through a European Coal and Steel Community scheme towards the costs of improving housing occupied by those working in the coal industry. Improvements may also be brought about through the involvement of a housing association or private developer.
