Prior to 1 April 1985, expenditure for works on the royal palaces were included in class VIII vote 4. From 1 April 1985 the works expenditure is in class XIV vote I.

since 1981–82 authorities have been able to supplement their allocation by spending the prescribed proportion of their capital receipts.
