§ 55. Mr. James Hamilton
asked the Paymaster General when he will next meet the Confederation of British Industry to discuss employment prospects in the manufacturing industries.
§ Mr. Trippier
My right hon. and noble Friend and I meet the Confederation of British Industry frequently to discuss a wide range of issues. In the improved economic climate our policies are creating, output, investment and exports in the manufacturing industry are rising, while the decline in manufacturing employment which we have experienced in common with all Western industrialised nations has eased considerably since 1983.
