§ Mr. Cohen
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis which lists for each year since 1980 all reward payments above £5,000; and whether any individual in this category has received more than one reward payment.
§ Mr. Giles Shaw
The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis tells me that no reward payment of more than226W £5,000 has been made by the Metropolitan police from public funds in any year since 1980. On occasion, in order to maintain the confidentiality of informants, the Metropolitan police also facilitate the payment of rewards offered by private institutions such as insurance companies, banks, etc. It is not the practice of the Metropolitan police to release details of any reward payments.
