HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 c56W
Mr. Hayes

asked the Attorney-General if he will list those areas not providing cover under the duty solicitor scheme.

The Attorney-General

Detailed returns for the whole country are not yet available. But interim figures show that of the 24 regions only one (London, East) has no 24-hour duty solicitor scheme yet in operation in any area.

Mr. Hayes

asked the Attorney-General if he is satisfied with the cover presently provided by the duty solicitor scheme; and if he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

The 24-hour duty solicitor scheme has been operating since 1 January and it is too early to make a full assessment. The Law Society reports that a good start has been made, and that there is rapid progress.
