asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is their intention in the near future to declare either or both of a 12-nautical mile territorial sea, and an Exclusive Economic Zone.

There would be no advantage to the UK in declaring an Exclusive Economic Zone as we already have a 200-nautical mile fishery zone and an established continental shelf regime. The question of the extension of the territorial sea is under active consideration taking into account all the relevant factors.
