Mr. John Mark Taylorasked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he next intends to visit and inspect any of the ancient monuments in the care of his Department.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThe majority of ancient monuments for which my right hon. Friend is responsible are managed on his behalf by the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission (English Heritage). My colleagues and I at present have no specific plans for visiting these monuments during the coming months, but opportunities to do so arise regularly. For instance, I recently visited Stonehenge to discuss plans for its future development with the chairman of English Heritage. The royal palaces are managed directly by my Department. I plan to visit the Tower of London in the New Year.
