§ Sir George YoungEnglish local authorities reported in their housing investment programme returns, the numbers of wheelchair dwellings, excluding any in sheltered housing schemes, within their areas at 1 April 1985.
These returns showed 10,800 owned by the local authorities themselves and a further 900 owned by public sector agencies including other local authorities and new towns. Separate figures are not available for charitable housing associations, but the authorities reported 2,500 wheelchair dwellings owned by housing associations.
