HC Deb 21 April 1986 vol 96 c29W
Mr. Alex Carlile

asked the Attorney-General how many people qualified as solicitors or barristers are employed in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Attorney-General

Sixty-five people qualified as solicitors or barristers are employed as practising lawyers in the Department of the Director of Public Prosections.

The new Crown Prosecution Service which came into being on 1 April in the areas formerly designated metropolitan counties employs 351 people qualified as solicitors or barristers who practise as lawyers.

In addition there is a small number of qualified lawyers employed in other grades in the Department and in the Crown Prosecution Service, but records do not allow these to be identified.
