HL Deb 30 October 1985 vol 467 c1603WA
Baroness David

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What advice or guidance is being given to local education authorities until such time as the Government introduces a new Education (Corporal Punishment) Bill.

The Earl of Swinton

The Government do not feel that guidance to local education authorities on the matter of corporal punishment is necessary at present. Discipline in a school is primarily a matter for head teachers and governing bodies, subject to the provisions of the school's articles of government.
