HL Deb 30 October 1985 vol 467 c1603WA
Lord Winstanley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the now proven danger of the transmission of the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses by injections, they will permit the prescription of disposable needles and syringes for diabetic patients on forms FPC 10.

Baroness Trumpington

If it is clinically necessary for a particular patient to use disposable (single-use) syringes and needles they may be supplied on the National Health Service through the hospital service. The re-usable syringes and needles which general practitioners may prescribe meet the medical needs of most diabetics. There should be no risk of cross-infection as each has a personal set of hypodermic equipment.
