§ Ms. Harmanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services which local authorities have used joint funding to establish intensive home help schemes for elderly people being discharged from hospital.
§ Mr. HayhoeThe information requested is not held centrally. Details of a number of intensive home help schemes, many involving joint finance, are given in the research report "A Sourcebook of Innovations in the Community Care of the Elderly" published by the personal social services research unit at the university of Kent in November 1982. Age Concern England has also published a collection of projects related to mental health in old age, some of which involve home support services funded through joint finance. Two of the pilot projects in the programme established as part of the care in the community initiative involve the use of specially trained home care assistants to provide care to elderly long stay patients leaving hospital. These projects at Winchester and Darlington are being supported from centrally reserved joint finance funds.
