HC Deb 01 May 1985 vol 78 c167W
Mr. Bellingham

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he is taking to help British manufacturing industry and, in particular, smaller firms to understand the benefits and problems of technological innovation including adoption of micro electronics.

Mr. Butcher

Following last year's successful series of seminars on innovation in industry, the Department has again joined forces with Barclays Bank, PA Technology and Michael Shortland Associates to provide an updated programme for 1985; this will begin on 1 May in London and will continue at 23 other regional cities during the year.

The seminars will be especially valuable to smaller firms and financial organisations who provide funds and offer advice for innovative projects. They will cover financial and managerial issues relevant in both new and traditional industries, and will draw on examples of successful innovation including incorporation of microelectronics in products and manufacturing processes.
