HC Deb 25 March 1985 vol 76 c27W
Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his assessment, up to the latest convenient date, of the consequences in Wales of the introduction of the milk quota scheme; what has been the change in the number of milk producers and upon the volume of milk produced in the Principality; and if he is satisfied with the results of arrangements for outgoers.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The consequences in Wales of the introduction of milk quotas will differ from farm to farm, according to the decisions taken by individual farmers. The number of registered milk producers in Wales at 31 December 1984 was 7,262, a decrease of 2.2 per cent. over December 1983. From April 1984 to January 1985 milk production was estimated to be 8.3 per cent. below year earlier levels. I am satisfied with the arrangements for outgoers.
