§ Mr. McTaggartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many people in each of the following age categories in the city of Glasgow were on Government training schemes at the latest available date and on the equivalent date in each of the last six years (a) 16 to 18-year-olds, (b) 18 to 25-year-olds, (c) 25 to 50-year olds, and (d) over 50-year-olds.
§ Mr. Allan StewartI regret that information by age group is not available by individual Government training scheme nor aggregated for the city of Glasgow for the period requested. However, at the end of January 1984 and January 1985 (the latest date for which comparative figures are available) there were respectively 5,842 and 6,324 young people (generally 16 and 17-year-olds) on the youth training scheme and 890 and 721 adults on the training opportunities scheme in the city. In addition Glasgow residents are participating in or will have benefited from training programmes run under the Manpower Services Commission's direct training services, the priority skills national grants programme, the open tech programme and through industrial training boards.
