HC Deb 01 March 1985 vol 74 c310W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish in the Official Report, for each of the past five years, the total income that the British Broadcasting Corporation received from television licences and the amount of licence revenue paid into Government funds from gross licence revenue.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The BBC's licence fee income and the gross television licence fee revenue were as follows:

BBC Income Gross Revenue
£ Million £ Million
1979–80 398.8 428.9
1980–81 503.3 532.1
1981–82 557.4 602.4
1982–83 696.8 740.0
1983–84 697.9 762.8

The difference between the two figures takes account of a complex series of adjustments in respect of over or under payments in individual years.
