HC Deb 18 June 1985 vol 81 c95W
Mr. Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the number of (a) registered workers' co-operatives and (b) community co-operatives in Scotland at the latest available date; how many people are employed in these co-operatives; and how the figures compare with the previous year.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The latest figures available to the Industry Department for Scotland indicated that approximately 134 Scottish co-operatives have been registered. Of these, it is estimated that 68 are workers' co-operatives and 66 community co-operatives or community businesses, employing approximately 600 and 1,400, respectively.

These figures are not collected on a regular basis. The current figures compare with 43 workers co-operatives and 39 community co-operatives or community businesses, employing 363 and 931, respectively in November 1984.
