§ Sir Keith JosephLocal authorities were informed on 31 May that the main rates of grant will be increased by 3 per cent, in the academic year 1985–86. For undergraduates the main rates will be:
£ London 2,165 Elsewhere 1,830 Home 1,480 The parental contribution scale will be adjusted upwards in line with earnings, the contributions from those in the middle and upper reaches of the scale will be increased. The minimum maintenance award will be abolished, but parents will not be expected to contribute towards the cost of tuition fees.
For post graduate students in receipt of studentships the main rates will be:
