§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will provide details of the £7,744,018 expenditure in 1984–85 by the Crown Suppliers on its vehicle fleet in respect of (a) expenditure on cars, (b) expenditure on other vehicles, (c) departmental allocations, (d) purchasing and disposal arrangements, (e) numbers of vehicles in each taxation class and (f) the percentage of British-made vehicles in each taxation class.
§ Sir George YoungA breakdown of the £7,744,018 expenditure in 1984–85 by The Crown Suppliers on its self-drive fleet and the other information requested is as follows:
(a) Approximately £2,865,000 related to cars.
(b) Approximately £4,879,000 to other vehicles.
(c) Fourty-seven vehicles are operated by the Crown Suppliers, 2,197 are hired to PSA and 922 to other Government Departments and to other public sector bodies, which for commercial reasons are not detailed.
(d) Vehicles are purchased under the rules of Government procurement, by tender, using central contracts. Vehicles are disposed of by auction when they have completed the useful economic 'life', defined in the case of cars as 5 ½ years or 55,000 miles, and in the case of other vehicles in relation to their use.
(e) Records of vehicles by taxation class are not maintained.
(f) Records are not maintained by taxation classes but the percentage of vehicles obtained from Britis manufac-turers in the total fleet is 99 per cent.
