§ Mr. Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table for the estimated number of additional workers in jobs as employees created from the beginning of 1983 to the end of 1984 after making allowance for the additional number of second jobs and the additional number of places on temporary employment schemes.
§ Mr. Allan Stewart[pursuant to his reply, 24 July 1985]: The number of employees in employment in Scotland rose by over 11,000 between December 1982 and December 1984. It is estimated that over the same period the number of participants in special employment and training schemes included in the employees in employment estimates fell by over 13,000. There are no estimates of changes in the number of second jobs over this period.
§ Mr. Dewarasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many public sector jobs there are, at the latest available date in the rural areas of Scotland; and how many there were in 1979.
§ Mr. Younger[pursuant to his reply, 25 July 1985]: The information requested is not available. However, estimates of the number of employees in major parts of the public sector in the area of the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Grampian, Highlands, Islands areas and Tayside local authorities (the Scottish regions which cover most of rural Scotland) are set out in the table.
