§ Mr. DunnIn January 1984 there were estimated to be 4.85 million primary places and 4.16 million secondary places maintained in use by local education authorities in England. The cost of maintaining these places in the financial year 1983–84 was £571.8 million in primary schools and £741.4 million in secondary schools.
