§ Sir Keith JosephLocal education authorities spent £915 per pupil in 1983–84, the latest period for which actual figures are available. The corresponding figures for 1981–82 and 1979–80, both in 1983–84 real prices, are £865 and £790. Real terms are the cash terms for each year adjusted by the gross domestic product deflator at market prices with 1983–84=100.
