§ Ms. Richardsonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many hospitals have ethical committees to consider research projects before they commence.
§ Mr. Kenneth Clarke[pursuant to his reply, 29 January 1985, c. 166]: All clinical research projects should be approved by a suitable ethical committee. The number, location and organisation of such committees is a matter for the medical profession, but we would favour a policy whereby every institution where any significant amount of clinical research is done sets up its own ethical committee.
