asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners were held at Winson Green prison in Birmingham on 31 December 1984; how many of those prisoners were unconvicted; and how many unconvicted prisoners had been provisionally put in category A.

The population of Birmingham prison on 31 December 1984 was 870 including 333 unconvicted prisoners, of whom five were provisionally placed in category A.
